Vocal Commands Tutorial for OrCam Read Smart

The training in this section will teach you how to use the vocal commands for your OrCam Read Smart.

We recommend going through these video tutorials in the order presented, so you can learn to use your device as easily and quickly as possible. Start with 'Setup' and continue with 'Reading', then here with 'Vocal Commands' and so on. You will find at the end of each section the link to the next recommended video tutorials.

How to access Vocal Commands:

There are 2 ways you can access vocal commands:

  1. MANUALLY 
    • Double tap the trigger button,
    • Wait for the long beep, then say the vocal command.
    • After 2-3 seconds, you will hear a chime and the device will respond.

    NOTE: The double tap for using vocal commands needs to be quick. When you do it correctly, you'll hear a long beep. If the taps are too slow, you'll hear the shutter sound of device taking a picture. If you find the double tap challenging, use the 'Hey OrCam' option below.

  2. VERBALLY USING 'HEY ORCAM'
    • Say 'Hey OrCam' followed by the vocal command.
    • After 2-3 seconds, you will hear a chime and the device will respond.
    NOTE: If you try the 'Hey OrCam' option and the device does not respond, this means you need to first enable the 'Hey OrCam' feature on your Read device.

Vocal Command Categories

Vocal commands are divided into 3 categories:

  1. Information commands which enable you to get information from your device, such as the time, date, the battery status, serial number, etc.

    TRY THESE:
    • Tell the time
    • Tell the battery status
    • Tell the date
  2. Settings commands which enable you to configure your device, such as change reading speed, volume, voice, etc.

    TRY THESE: 
    • Read slower
    • Read faster
    • Enter the user menu (quickly double press the trigger button to exit)
